Supporting Unions & Working Families

As the eldest daughter of two union members and longtime union reps in their respective organizations – my father in the Letter Carriers union, and my mother in both the Massachusetts Nurses and Massachusetts Teachers unions – I grew up understanding that unions are the means by which families achieve stability, dignity, safe working conditions, and a fair shot. Standing with working families means standing with unions that fight for fair pay, safe workplaces, and collective bargaining rights. That perspective is not political for me, it is personal. 

As your State Representative, I will be a strong advocate for labor unions and protect the right to organize, bargain collectively, and secure fair wages and safe working conditions.

Protecting the Right to Organize

A contract is only as strong as a worker's ability to bargain for it. Every attempt to chip away at that right, through misclassification, privatization, or delay, is an attempt to move money from the workers to the people at the top.

As your State Representative, I will:

• Defend and strengthen prevailing wage and Project Labor Agreements on public projects.

• Oppose any effort to weaken labor protections or the Pacheco Law, and oppose the privatization of core public services.

• Support strong worker classification laws so employers can't dodge responsibility by calling employees contractors.

• Support the right of workers to unionize, and support unemployment benefits for striking workers.

Fair Pay & Wage Theft

Wage theft is theft. When a worker puts in the hours, they need to get paid for the hours at the rate they were promised.

As your State Representative, I will:

• Fight for stronger wage theft enforcement with real consequences for employers who steal from workers.

• Support raising the minimum wage so full-time work means a life you can actually afford.

• Work to close the wage gap so all workers are paid what the job is worth.

Upward Mobility

The whole point of my work is simple: I want my kids to do better than I did, and I want that to be true for every family in this district. That only happens when good jobs, affordable housing, decent schools, and affordable care exist in the same place at the same time.

As your State Representative, I will:

• Tie state economic development investment to good-paying jobs and training pipelines, especially in the trades and clean energy.

• Protect state revenues and the Fair Share Amendment, and oppose tax cuts that come out of education and municipal aid.

• Support public investment in the foundations of mobility: infrastructure, education, housing, childcare, and clean energy.

Every opportunity I was given was provided by the security and prosperity of my parents' labor jobs. I grew up seeing firsthand how unions provide families with stability, dignity, and opportunity,  and I will always stand with labor.
