Yet another school shooting today

We had yet another school shooting in the United States today, this time in Oregon. My heart breaks and goes out to the families and community members who are dealing with the aftermath of this absolutely preventable tragedy. My two oldest kids were the same age as the kids who were shot and killed in Sandy Hook in 2012. And 14 years later, we have still not made measurable progress to prevent these things from happening. I am not anti-gun. I served in the military. I have handled plenty of firearms. I don't have any problem with people responsibly owning guns. But I do have a problem with rolling back existing gun regulations that are already in place to make Massachusetts one of the safest states in the entire nation with one of the lowest gun death rates because we have common sense regulations already in place. My opponent has filed legislation to roll back elements of that gun safety legislation, and I strongly oppose that. I think that the rules that we have in place now are smart, and I think that they keep us safe.

I am proud to have the Moms Demand Action Gun Sense candidate distinction. I will continue to work for smart, common sense, reasonable gun safety regulation as I have ever since what happened in Sandy Hook. And I pray that the families in Oregon who are dealing with this absolutely senseless tragedy find some peace and we finally find a solution and make progress to save these children's lives.
